Scarfing is a process of removing excess weld bead on a pipe or tube to create a desired shape. It is done by planing longitudinally welded tubes or pipes right after the welding process. If it is done perfectly, the resulting profile will match the ideal shape of the parent material.

Tube scarfing is the process of removing the excess welding material from longitudinally welded tube or pipe to provide a smooth surface.

The process of scarfing consists of flattening the edges of two pieces of iron preparatory to welding, so that when the edges overlap they are of the same thickness at the junction of the two pieces as the rest of the iron.
